The iconic Palace of Justice in Brussels has been under renovation since 1984, famously surrounded by scaffolds. This seemingly endless project has become a symbol of irony and inefficiency for Belgians. The situation grew even more absurd when, in 2021, the scaffolding itself required renovation to comply with modern safety standards.
In Belgium, we pride ourselves on self-deprecation and not taking ourselves too seriously. This design humorously captures that spirit by referencing René Magritte's famous painting, La Trahison des images, which declares beneath a painted pipe: "Ceci n'est pas une pipe."
